Black Swan

Black Swan was shot in Nina’s point of view from beginning to start, after all she was the star of the show!  Who would have thought the leading roll would drive a person into utter and complete madness.  Nina had to experience an overprotective mother that was practically obsessed over her, a new girl coming from san francisco named lily who she believed that was out to steal her part, a director that was mentally pushing her and sexually taking advantage of her,  and lastly the biggest obsticle she had to go through was a battle with herself. Nina had an obsession with trying to be perfect, she tried to hit every dance move on point prisicely.  Dancing is suppose to be somehting where you can express yourself freely not force yourself so hard to the point that your dance shows no emotion.  One thing that Lily had that Nina didn’t was her effortless flow to the music as she dances, she was sensual and connected to her sexuality.  Sexuality has a part in dance, it captures the audiences attention when your connected to your body when your moving to a beat showing a side of a person that may not always be shown at first encounter.  In the beginning of the film Nina stole some of Beth’s belongings in her dressing room, because she wanted to be perfect just like her.  She became obsessed with trying to be perfect like her ,because Beth was once the lead role of all the other past productions that the dance company did. Her strive for perfection was a big obsticle standing on her way and she focused it all on just being perfect.

In the film black swan the dance company puts on a production of swan lake, how ever this movie shows dancing I feel like this movie isnt just all about dance.  There more to the film than twirling in tu tus and spinning in circles.  Its about a girls identity, and bringing out a side of a girl that she’s never let out before.  Throughout the moviei I witnessed nina slowly letting out her dark side.  She begins to hullicinate events that would occur in her mind to the point where she couldn’t realize what was real and was fake.  There were scences such as her seeing herself walk by right past her, a grusome scene where she rips off the skin of her finger, Lily having sex with Thomas, Nina having sex with Lily, but that was all in her head and wasn’t true in reality.  All the things that weren’t true in reality she let her self believe that they actually were though.  Nina couldn’t distinguish the imaginitive and realistic events that were happening because she was slowly losing her mind being consumed for the roll of as the Swan Queen.

Black swan is about a talented ballet dancer that goes by the name of Nina Sayers played by Natalie Portman.  She’s trying to get the role as the swan queen for the production of Swan Lake that her dance company is putting on. A ballerina in the city that never sleeps passionately tried her best to land the role of Swan Queen , but along the course of that goal she began to start losing her mind and even herself.This pyscolgical thriller won an oscar along with fourty six other award wins with one hundred and eight nominations! First opening weeking black swan soared in with one million four hundred fourty three thousand eight hundred and nine dollars on december fifth in two thousand and ten.   The film was shot in manhattan new york and took about a year for production and three months for filming.However the script about ten years to make it to the screen.  This film was all talk around hollywood because it had stars such as Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Winona Ryder, Vincent Cassel, Sabastian Stan and so much more.  The cast chosen for the film was great, even stars like Blake Lively and Eva Green auditioned for parts and there were numerous rumors going around that certain stars were going to play certain rolls, but over all I felt like the cast that Darren Aronofsky chose was great.  Without the cast that Darren Aronofsky chose I felt like the film wouldn’t have done so great in the box office.

Over the course of the film, the anxiety and emotional pain led her to a certain level of hallucination and self-mutilation. When she thoughtshe was fighting with Mila toward the end, she was actually fighting with herself, at least that part of her personality, and did, in fact, stab herself. But she was so intensely caught up in the role that she went out and performed despite being badly wounded. She finally achieved a perfect performance, letting both sides of herself loose. And at the climax of this act of perfection, she died, just as her character died.

The kiss that landed Nina Sayers the role as the Black Swan. A side of her that was dark came out when she bit Thomas while he was kissing her.  He saw a part of her that he didn’t expect, it that got her the role as the lead.
